Cosmoprof 2019
Cosmoprof 2019
If we had the opportunity to take part in only one event in the cosmetics and packaging industry in Europe, it would definitely be the Cosmoprof fair in Bologna.
Every fair is, above all, a presentation of trends. For several seasons now, we have noticed one constant - natural, bio and eco products.
Eco, bio, organic
As we predicted, the most common slogans on stands and labels during the Cosmoprof fair are "Organic", "Bio", "Eco" and "Vegan". Regardless of whether the brand or product line was mass market or high-end, it was difficult to find a product that did not contain 90, 98, 99 or 100% natural ingredients. It didn't matter whether it was an ordinary hand cream or a super-efficient eye cream - each cosmetic was marked with at least one "green" symbol. The only exception were highly effective or single products, whose producers and customers first focus on the effect of the cosmetic and only then on the origin of the ingredients.
The packaging follows the cosmetic. This year, 10 out of 10 producers had a corner at their stands with several or the entire line of eco packaging. Some of them are recycled jars and bottles, some are made of biodegradable or compostable plastic. Nevertheless, it is still too early to call the cosmetic packaging industry 2019 the year of ecological packaging, since most offers are in the design, testing and adaptation phase. Eco-friendly plastic could be available at full scale in about a year.
However, there is already something to be proud of. The absolute hit at Cosmoprof and Cosmopack were jars with a replaceable thermos offered by at least four packaging manufacturers. This concept significantly reduces the consumption of raw materials, allows the brand to produce fewer jars and then provide only replaceable inserts. The customer has to pay the full amount only once and then buys the cream itself at a much cheaper price. As a bonus, the brand gains a customer who will regularly buy the product.
Diversity manifesto
Another thing, as noticeable as the eco-bio trend on the Cosmoprof 2019 tags, was a nod to diversity. Use from bright and catchy designs to minimalist and simple ones, used in one brand or series. The use of glass or metal, while everyone chooses plastic (and vice versa) - of course. You can find bath gels packaged in aluminum bottles, traditionally used for olive oil. It was also easy to miss the trend of producing plastic bottles (especially brown PET and PE bottles) that imitate the shape and appearance of glass pharmaceutical packaging. Some of them are so well made that it is difficult to distinguish plastic from glass until you hold the package in your hand.
